IT Projects Activity Management under Conditions of Globalization.

Abstract. What defines project management is the application of knowledge, skills and tools as well as
techniques into project activities in a way which meets project requirements. On the other hand,
competences can be perceived as application of that kind of knowledge and skills which define the
success of a particular project activity. Therefore, in order to assure project success, it is necessary to
incorporate a set of specific competences. However, according to holistic approach, the ability to utilize
appropriate individual competences does not determine high effectiveness level of a particular project
team. Thus, it is necessary to put an emphasis on collective competences. On the other hand we should
also aim at an approach that will integrate competences and knowledge management with project activity
management in a way that will guarantee coherent methodology, and, by the application of benchmarking
will, allow effective company operating under conditions of the globalization. It is also important to make
the most of the effects of IT projects work standardization and virtualization - stimulation of those
activities that are concentrating on acquiring competences and operating on the global market.
In this work we have shown an approach to project activity management which utilizes competences and
knowledge management that will allow us to answer the following question ?C what competences should
we incorporate in our project in order to conduct it in a way which meets fixed requirements, at the same
time minimizing cost and maximizing effectiveness of the project activities. The proposed approach is
illustrated on a case study and discussed with the reference to the integration with management
methodologies such as Prince2 and EVM.
